HackX Jr is an Inter-School Hackathon organized by the Industrial Management Science Students’ Association (IMSSA) with the purpose of providing a platform for school children around the country to transform their ideas into reality.
The participants are empowered to bring forth their innovative ideas, accelerate their creativity and develop their soft skills as well as problem-solving capabilities through this competition. It facilitates school children to be introduced to the IT pathway by encouraging them to build technology-based solutions to problems that they have identified in the society. It also provides a platform for industries to address the school students, evaluate their potential and benefit from their unbiased and open-minded solutions.
The ultimate goal of organizing HackX Jr is to spark innovative ideas and develop a creative entrepreneurial culture among the school community by exposing themselves to the corporate sector. In return, they will contribute to global knowledge and economy, by exposing themselves to the corporate sector.
HackX Junior 2k20 was held under two co-events: HackX Junior Awareness Program and HackX Junior Finale. The awareness program of HackX Junior 2k20 was held on the 22nd of November. The session was conducted by Mr. Kumaraguru Varatharaja, the CEO of Youth Business Sri Lanka.
On the 12th of December, Mr. Milinda Tillekaratne, Founder of ‘Digital Yoda’ taught the new and simplified concepts in marketing, such as Growth Hacking where products can be quickly brought into popularity. On the 13th of December, Mr. Ahamed Nishadh conducted a session on “How to pitch your idea?“ and Mr. Mohammed Fawaz, Director of ‘Innovation and Business Intelligence at I-Context Private Limited conducted a session on “Lean Canvas”, which is a template that assists in turning an idea into a startup model.
The Finale of HackX Junior 2k20 was held on the 17th December 2020 with the participation of 10 school teams that were selected by evaluating proposals received during the registration period. The panel of judges consisted of Mr. Kumaraguru Vartharaja – CEO of Youth Business Sri Lanka of Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Prof. Janaka Wijayanayake – University of Kelaniya, and Ms. Tamasha Fernanado – Project Manager ICTA.
Team Royal Innovators from Royal College, Colombo emerged as the overall winners while Team Pixelated from Holy Family Convent, Colombo, and Team Jano from President’s College, Rathnapura emerged as the First and Second Runners-up respectively.
