Management and Information Technology

    As one of the first-ever departments of the Faculty of Science of University of Kelaniya, the Department of Industrial Management (DIM) started the B.Sc. in Management and Information Technology (MIT) degree programme to fill the gap between academia and the corporate world and to meet the demands of the industry. This four-year Honours degree programme offers a wide range of knowledge and skills as a blend of management and information technology disciplines. Apart from the subject knowledge, this programme places special emphasis on soft skills and personality development, including an internship opportunity of six months, as well as an option to exit with a three-year general degree upon the approval of the faculty.

    The students following this degree programme will get further opportunity to specialize in one of the following areas from their third academic year; Business Systems Engineering and Operations and Supply Chain Management are the areas offered under the Management and Technology while two specialization areas of Information Technology and Information Systems are offered under Information and Communication Technology (Computing). The combination of the two fields which bridges management and information technology have been a major advantage in rising the career ladder for MIT undergraduates. They enjoy a high level of employability due to their reputation of high potential in the working capacity. Furthermore, the DIM is introducing a one-year Master degree programme in Data Analytics programme which provides the opportunity to acquire the necessary skills in the field of big data analytics in order to enter the highly rewarding job market.

    Students wishing to join the B.Sc. in MIT degree programme should apply to the University Grants Commission for admission to Universities in Sri Lanka with relevant results and Z-score in the Physical Science or Biological Science stream for the G.C.E Advanced Level Examination. In addition, they are required to pass the aptitude test conducted by the DIM. The programme aspires to inspire future MIT undergraduates also to set their own goals and discover a brighter future of their own.
