    University Colors 2019

    Colors Awards 2017/2018 jointly organized by the Department of Physical Education and Sports Council, with the objective of appreciating sports performances of the undergraduates during the academic year, was held on the 24th of January, 2020 at Sri Dharmaloka Hall, University of Kelaniya.

    Malinga Herath of Level 1 (2019) received University Colors for being a member of the winning team of the SLUG Championship for Carrom in the Male Category. Thilina Aluthge of Level 1 (2019) was awarded University Colors for his outstanding performance in the university Rugby squad that emerged as the Runners-up of the SLUG Championship 2019. Akila Rangalla of Level 1 (2019) received University Colors for his performance and contribution in Chess, representing the University of Kelaniya. 

    Jeyakeerthanan Kathirgamanathan of Level 2 (2019) won University Colors for his skillful accomplishments in Tennis. Anuradha Jayathilaka of Level 2 (2019) won University Colors for her outstanding performance in Chess. Ravikumar Nishanthan of Level 2 (2019) received University Colors for his exceptional performance in Scrabble. 

    Sanduni Perera of Level 3 (2019) was awarded University Colors for her outstanding performance and contribution as a Captain of the University Basketball team and as a Taekwondo player. Asenika Liyanage of Level 3 (2019) received University Colors for her exceptional performance in Scrabble. 

    Tennis Tournament in KDU

    Jeyakeerthanan Kathirgamanathan, a Level 3 (2020)  undergraduate of the Department of Industrial Management was a member of the team that emerged as the Second Runners-up in the Leader’s Trophy Tennis Tournament, which was organized by Kotalawala Defense University, held in October 2020.

    46th National Sports Festival 2020

     

    Sanduni Perera (Level 4) won the First Place in the over 73kg weight category at the Inter-Divisional Secretariat Taekwondo Competition of the Kalutara district in the 46th National Sports Festival 2020. She also won the First Place in the over 73kg weight category at the Inter-District Taekwondo Competition of the Western Province. Furthermore, she got selected to represent the Western Province during the National Sports Festival 2020 for her achievement in the Taekwondo Competition in the weight category of over 73kg.

     

    Spell 2019 – Invitational Inter-University Scrabble Encounter

    The Spell 2019 – Invitational Inter-University Scrabble Encounter organized by the Scrabble team of University of Kelaniya was held on the 09th of November 2019 at the University of Kelaniya. 

    Ravikumar Nishanthan of Level 3 (2020) of the Department of Industrial Management was a member of the team that was the Runners-up in the Men’s Category.  Asenika Liyanage of Level 4 (2020) of the Department of Industrial Management was a member of the team (Team A) that emerged as the First Runners-up in the Women’s Category. Maduka De Abrew of Level 3 (2020) of the Department of Industrial Management was a member of the team that emerged as the Second Runners-up in the Women’s Category. 

    Other Achievements

    Asenika Liyanage of Level 3 (2019) was a team member of the Girls’ Scrabble Team which emerged as the Champions of Mora Scrabbler organized by the University of Moratuwa that was held in December 2019.

    Malinga Herath of Level 1 (2019) was a member of the Carrom Team, which became the First Runners-up in the Inter-University Championship organized by the University of Moratuwa and the champions of the Grip-to-Grip Inter-University Carrom Tournament organized by the University of Kelaniya. 

    Akila Rangalla of Level 1 (2019) was a member of the University Chess Team that emerged as the First Runners-up in the Athugalpura Open International Chess Tournament – Higher Education sector and Kandy Open International Chess Tournament – Higher Education sector.
